| Description |
Draft texts (holograph and typescript) of Crick, "The writhing number made easy". In earlier drafts (two included), the paper has the title (pace James Watson) "Writhing numbers for birdwatchers". The paper was eventually published as Crick (1976), "Linking numbers and nucleosomes".
The opening paragraph to the paper states that it is "an expansion and clarification" of F Brock Fuller (1971), "The writhing number of a space curve".
Together with notes (holograph), the file includes two letters from Fuller to Crick, and one in return.
Also included is a single photocopied sheet (source unidentified) which gives practical advice on cable- and rope-coiling ("As any seafaring man can tell you, rope coiling is an art..."). A portion of the text is boxed in blue pencil and at the head of the sheet is written, in the same blue pencil, "A practical approach to the writhing problem".
