Historical Background

Albert Cherns, B.A. (Hons.)

Professor of Social Sciences and Head of Department of Social Sciences (1969-1984), Loughborough University;

Fellow, British Psychological Society;

Governor, British Steel Industry's Ashorne Hill College;

Member, Tavistock Institute Council.

Senior appointments in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research;

Secretary of the Heyworth Committee that recommended the establishment of a British Social Science Research Council.

Cherns established the Centre for the Utilization of Social Sciences (CUSSR) with key linkages to the Tavistock Institute, to ISR at Ann Arbor (Stan Seashore) and to UCLA (Lou Davis).

Acquisition Details Deposited in the Wellcome Library by the British Psychological Society in September 2008.
